The Truth About Fitness
The things I am about to say are things that most fitness professionals won't tell you. They are also things that you won't want to hear, but they are the truth. The fitness industry in this country and the overall health and fitness of Americans is in a state of crisis. We are bombarded everyday by people telling us that we need to feel and look a certain way and that they have the "magic key" to achieving those goals. Fitness in this country is literally a multi-BILLION dollar industry. And what do you need to keep a product selling? Customers. And who are the customers of the fitness industry? Well, to put it bluntly, fat people....or people who are insecure with their bodies, or who just want to be fitter. So these customers go out and purchase these products and everything should be fine, right? Wrong. The problem is that if these products worked, everyone would get fit and then there would be no more customers. So you can see the catch-22. If all of these products worked, we would all look amazing and have no more reason to buy them.
The truth is that 99% of the pills, videos, diets, balls, bikes, books, and bands out there don't do half of what they claim they do. Sure, they may have some use or deliver some results, but only enough to keep you coming back for more. And watching a video certainly isn't going to give you "8 minute Abs" or whatever the claim happens to be. The truth is that the only thing that really works is hard work combined with the applied knowledge of how to change your body. That's where the personal trainer comes into play. With that being said, I am going to go even further and tell you that there are A LOT of terrible personal trainers out there. I've spent many years in gyms and I've seen these trainers. Trainers that don't pay attention to their client's form, don't specially tailor and change their client's workouts, don't counsel client's on proper nutrition, and most of all just don't care. This has actually become an epidemic in the fitness world. People who are in shape becoming trainers for no reason other than they are in shape. People always laugh or roll their eyes when I tell them this but I hold myself to the standards of a doctor. Of course, I realize I am not one, but I truly believe that the personal trainer needs to be held to a higher standard. I mean, your trainer is responsible for a big part of YOUR health, so wouldn't you want that person to, at the very least, care. That brings me to the three promises that I make to all of my clients.
1. I WILL provide you with all of the tools necessary to achieve all of your fitness goals.
2. I WILL always care enough to never give up on you.
3. I WILL show you results.
